| | 3 Weeks Of Testing For Elementary School Students | | My boys are in 3rd and 5th grade, every year they do standardized testing. This goes on for three weeks, every day from 8 to 12. I think 3 weeks is way to long for testing, maybe 1 week at the most. They are basically wasting this time for learning. Because when the testing is done, they have lunch and a break. Then they get out of school at 2:30. When I get the results at the end of the year, I have no clue to what it is saying. I am basically only concerned about their report cards and whether they are passing or not. Do your children go through this much testing? | |

| | Great memories in elementary school | | Do you have some great memories in elementary school? Those were the innocent years when we'd play on the grounds after the last class. I was also very active in declamation, oration and acting contests. That was the beginning of my self-discovery that I got a lot of promise. I couldn't forget those days when I would lead the daily aerobics after flag ceremony. Also, I was a gymnast from Grade 3 to Grade 4. I graduated Salutatorian which made my folks so proud. I was always an academic achiever until college. I would join different kinds of contests which I thought I could excel in. Ultimately, my parents put me through college without a single complain. The beauty about it was that I didn't have to pay tuition fees because I was a scholar. | |

| | | son graduated from elementary school lastnight.. awards | | my son had 6th grade graduation lastnight, i am so proud of him.. but during the ceramony they were handing out awards and the one thing he had worked so hard for was a perfect attendance, he did not miss any school. he was late once only because he had an appointment in the morning but when i took him in they told me that because he was there before the half day mark it would not affect his attendence.. well he never got called up to accept the award. i asked why he didnt get it and they said that there were no students that popped out on the computer that had perfect attendance i had pointed out that he was in school and never missed a day all they said was they will double check.. he was sooo upset..so what do i do about this? there is only 2 days left of school here... this is the 2nd time this has happened to him last year was the same thing, he never missed a day or was not late and they still did not award him for that..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. | |
| | Career Day at an Elementary School. Have you ever presented at or been to one? | | A farmer came, she talked about what is great about being a farmer and what is not so great. She also gave the kids ice cream and told them how that comes from a cow. Cows give milk, but also cream. An engineer talked about how he designs things to cut use of electricity and maintains equipment for a factory. He had the kids play with some of his equipment and gave them samples from his factory, toilet tissue.A riding instructor explained about horses and what was good and bad about her business. She gave out beautiful posters with different kinds of horses on them. There were 9 presenters with 9 careers including Fire Fighter, Hair Stylist, Correction Officer, YMCA Camp Director, Photocopy and design press center, and a Veterinary Tech. I remember my Dad doing part of the school's sidewalk for our parent-job day as a kid. I also remember seeing my first dowser at parent-hobbie presentation as a kid. What were your experiences/memories like? | |
