Traces
is an ambient library and public art project with roots in Floyd, Virginia,
USA. The Traces reading room & art space was last installed in studio
124 at the Jacksonville Center in Floyd on September 30, 2006. To learn
more about the objects & artwork installed during Traces exhibits,or to learn
how you can contribute your skills and talents to the Traces initiative for creative literacy,
please stay attuned to the ideapark.org
news loop.
theory
It's about time we did away with the notion that pretentiousness equals
professionalism in art, and that inaccessibility is some kind of magic
wand you can wave over creative works to make them "real".

comics
Rick and Grendella make puppets
Grendella
is wearing her favorite, favorite sneakers today. They are perfect. Not
only are they brand new, they also have puppies on them. But Grendella
isn't thinking about her puppy sneakers right now. She is too busy freaking
out and acting like it's the end of the world. It all started when Rick
left the cap off the glue, and all the puppets got ruined. But please
do not remind Rick of that. He feels bad enough as it is.
writings
embracing
complexity in art
An
essay by Mitsunori Koike. "By stripping
away spirituality, human expression, and complication, and replacing them
with rationality and cold symbolism, Minimalism succeeded only in creating
a kind of novelty product: an extremely narrow lens which allows you to
fool yourself into thinking that the world is understandable."

the
homeless museum
In the director's words, the Homeless Museum blends "absurdity
with sincerity...a dual critique of the cultural institution as enterprise
and the cult of the artist as shaman." This is a razor-sharp answer
to elitism and pretentious art rhetoric...I love it!
